Joining the US Coast Guard Registry
So, if you want to make sure that your vessel is properly registered with the United States Coast Guard, you will have to apply for initial registration, which is actually necessary for commercial vessels to be able to operate under the proper regulations. Now, while the process in and of itself is pretty straightforward, it can include a lot of things, to the point in which it can sometimes become overwhelming. Consulting the Registry
Now, if what you need to do is consult the US Coast Guard registry for some reason, you will have two options. On one hand, if all you need to do is quickly check the status of your registration, you consult the database via the United States Coast Guard’s homeport lookup. However, if you need more comprehensive information about the vessel in question, including data about its past owners, potential claims of lien, or other documentation related to it, then you will want to request an abstract of the title. This will provide you with the history of the vessel’s documentation from even before you owned it in case you got it secondhand.
